Heer Ranjha is the story of Heer, a beautiful girl from the Sayyal tribe, and Ranjha, a young man from the Ranjha tribe. Ranjha leaves his home after a family dispute and wanders until he reaches Heer's village. He meets Heer, and they fall deeply in love. Heer gives Ranjha a job as a cowherd on her family's land. Their love grows, but Heer's jealous uncle and her parents oppose their relationship and arrange her marriage to another man. Despite their separation, Ranjha becomes a wandering ascetic (jogi), hoping to reunite with Heer. Eventually, Heer agrees to marry Ranjha, but on the day of their wedding, her uncle poisons her. Ranjha, heartbroken, dies beside her.
Their story symbolizes eternal love and is cherished in Punjabi literature and culture.
